Exercise May Slow Biological Aging in Breast Cancer Survivors, Randomized Trial Analysis Suggests
A 12-month exercise program was linked to slower biological aging and better brain function in breast cancer survivors, a new study found.
A randomized trial found that a 12-month exercise intervention was associated with slower epigenetic aging and cognitive benefits in breast cancer survivors.
A secondary analysis of the randomised I Can! trial found that a year-long exercise program slowed epigenetic aging in breast cancer survivors.
The study, published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, also found faster epigenetic aging was linked to worse attention and cognition after treatment.
Researchers say the findings suggest physical activity may influence biological aging processes, though they stress it does not literally make survivors younger.
The study found the exercise program was delivered remotely over 12 months, so ask your oncology team whether a similar program suits your situation.
