Trump cancels some Canada tariffs ahead of midterms
The Trump administration has quietly dropped some tariffs on Canadian agricultural goods ahead of the November midterm elections, with a Republican senator in a tight race claiming credit.
Sen. Susan Collins, who’s in a tough re-election fight, said she secured from the Trump administration tariff exemptions on some agricultural and forestry items.
The Trump administration granted tariff exemptions on some Canadian agricultural imports, including blueberries, potatoes and apples, weeks before the midterm elections.
Republican Senator Susan Collins, facing a tough re-election fight in Maine, announced the exemptions and said she had secured them directly from the administration.
Her Democrat challenger said Collins enabled the trade war chaos and is now seeking credit for minor relief, while polls show Democrats could win both chambers.
