Meta to delay new commercial terms criticised by publishers, advertisers
Meta has pushed back the start date of its new commercial terms to 20 November after publishers and advertisers complained they hand Meta unlimited rights to their content for AI.
Meta Platforms will delay the implementation of updated commercial terms, so it can address concerns from publishers and digital advertisers, the US tech company said on Friday, in a decision that could stave off potential regulatory action.
Meta has delayed its updated commercial terms from 30 October to 20 November after complaints from publishers and digital advertisers in the EU and UK.
Publishers argued the new terms would give Meta an unlimited right to use their content for AI services, which Meta has rejected.
The European Publishers Council is still pushing regulators to suspend the terms entirely, saying content owners need stronger contractual safeguards.
If you run a business page or advertise on Meta, the new terms could affect how your content is used for AI training, so it is worth checking what changes on 20 November.
