The gunmen started shooting during a funeral procession, in a rare attack on Jordan's Christian minority that authorities described as a terrorist act by extremists.
Gunmen opened fire during a funeral procession at the Hamoud Church in Jordan's Karak governorate, killing seven people and wounding 40 others.
Jordan's interior minister described the attackers as extremists, though authorities said it was too early to confirm links to known groups inside or outside the country.
King Abdullah visited Karak hours after the attack and vowed the perpetrators would be punished with an iron fist, as the hunt for attackers continued.
