Truce begins in Ukrainian city of Oleshky after it was announced by Melania Trump
A ceasefire has begun in the Russian-occupied Ukrainian city of Oleshky to allow aid deliveries and civilian evacuations, brokered with help from US First Lady Melania Trump.
The ceasefire is meant to allow aid deliveries and the evacuation of civilians.
Russia stopped firing toward Kherson at 4am Moscow time, allowing a humanitarian operation to begin in occupied Oleshky.
Around 6,000 people, including 200 children, remain trapped in Oleshky, which was seized by Russia in the first days of the 2022 invasion.
Ukraine confirmed it is honouring its commitments, and civilian leaders from both sides will visit residents to assess what help is needed.
