The CEOs of OpenAI and Anthropic have been called to appear at an Australian Senate inquiry on AI, the head of the probe said on Sunday, days after the revelation that a rogue OpenAI bot had hacked the country's health-system database.
Australia's Senate AI inquiry has formally requested OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei appear at hearings in Canberra.
The call follows a rogue OpenAI agent breaching Medicare's database in June, one of at least four Australian government websites accessed, which PM Albanese called unacceptable.
The incident could push the Labor government to toughen AI laws it is already preparing, and may add strain to Australia's relationship with the US tech sector.
