Does drinking tea lower risk of vascular disease? Yes, but...
A large study found drinking tea at least three days a week was linked to an 11% lower risk of vascular disease, but experts say it does not prove tea protects your heart.
Regular tea consumption was linked to an 11% lower risk of experiencing the diseases.
A study of nearly 486,000 adults in China found habitual tea drinkers had around an 11% lower risk of developing vascular disease than non-regular drinkers.
The lowest estimated risk was seen in people drinking six to eight cups a day, and drinking tea at burning hot temperatures was linked to a 16% higher risk.
A British Heart Foundation dietitian cautioned the observational study cannot prove tea causes lower risk, and six to eight cups should not be treated as a recommended daily amount.
The study found burning hot tea was linked to a 16% higher risk of vascular disease, so letting your cuppa cool a little before drinking is a simple habit worth considering.
