The US Justice Department filed a federal lawsuit seeking to block Alaska from certifying its Senate race result if Republican incumbent Dan Sullivan loses to Democrat Mary Peltola.
A second candidate named Daniel J Sullivan also appears on the ballot, and the government argues his inclusion could mislead voters and distort the outcome of the tight race.
The second Sullivan has denied any connection to Peltola's campaign, and Alaska's ranked-choice voting system means voters could select both Sullivans if they are unsure.
