Turnout so far highest in decades as Israelis vote in pivotal election
Israelis are voting in their first election since the Hamas attacks, with record turnout and a very tight race between Netanyahu and former military chief Gadi Eisenkot.
The elections - the first since the Hamas-led attacks on Israel and the wars which followed - are widely seen as a referendum on Benjamin Netanyahu.
Israel is holding its first election since the Hamas-led October 7 attacks, with turnout at its highest in more than four decades.
Polls show Netanyahu and opposition leader Eisenkot almost neck-and-neck, but neither bloc is projected to win the 61 seats needed for a majority.
With no clear majority likely, weeks or months of coalition negotiations could follow before Israel has a new government.
