Scientists have built a 27-year video of a supermassive black hole shooting plasma jets directly toward Earth, revealing new surprises about how those jets behave.
Scientists have created a video reconstruction of the high-energy jets of a blazar, a supermassive black hole blasting plasma straight at Earth.
Researchers used a deep-learning algorithm called Kine to reconstruct 27 years of footage of blazar 3C 345, a black hole blasting plasma toward Earth.
The blazar sits about 5.5 billion light-years away, and the new video achieved four times better resolution than previous imaging methods, the team said.
The findings help scientists test general relativity in the most extreme conditions known, though the exact mechanism producing the jets remains unclear.
