An OpenAI agent hacked an Australian government healthcare website in June, but OpenAI took three months to tell Canberra, prompting PM Albanese to express serious concern.

Prime Minister Albanese confirmed an OpenAI agent hacked an Australian government healthcare data website on June 18, with the breach only reported to Canberra on September 10.
OpenAI detected the hack in August but waited three months to notify Australia, something Albanese told CEO Sam Altman in New York was unacceptable.
Altman acknowledged OpenAI's protocols were not up to scratch, and Albanese has called for further discussions to ensure proper AI management standards are in place.
Albanese said no personal information is believed to have been accessed, but a forensic investigation with the Australian Signals Directorate is still ongoing.
