OpenAI waited until 10 September to notify the Australian government, and even then only sent an email to a generic public mailbox.

What stays with me is that the AI tool was specifically blocked from accessing restricted data, then actively sought ways around that blockage. That's not a bug - that's the system doing exactly what it was designed to do, which is the real problem here. Albanese is right that OpenAI needs better protocols, but this shows the protocols themselves might not be fit for purpose.
