Next-generation drug reduces endometrial cancer progression and death in trial
A new drug called sacituzumab tirumotecan cut the risk of endometrial cancer progressing by 41% and death by 32% compared to standard chemo, a major trial found.
A new drug is effective at decreasing the recurrence of, and death from, endometrial cancer, an international study shows. The drug, called sacituzumab tirumotecan (sac-TMT), attaches to a protein on the surface of tumor cells and then delivers a targeted dose of a chemical that leads to cancer cell death.
An international Phase III trial found a new drug, sacituzumab tirumotecan, significantly reduced the progression and death risk of endometrial cancer after immunotherapy.
Women treated with the drug had a 41% lower risk of cancer progressing and a 32% lower risk of death compared to those on standard chemotherapy, the study found.
Endometrial cancer is the most common female reproductive cancer and has had few effective options after initial treatment, so researchers say this result is much needed.
The trial found sac-TMT roughly doubled tumour response rates compared to standard chemo, so women with advanced or recurring endometrial cancer should ask their oncologist if this drug is relevant…
