Audi CEO faces backlash after joining Trump at midterm campaign rally
Audi's CEO appeared at a Trump campaign rally to announce a $4 billion US factory, sparking a backlash from Germany's top union over political neutrality rules.
Audi chief Gernot Doellner drew heavy criticism on Monday for appearing alongside US President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in the battleground state of Georgia, with the head of Germany's top union saying it violated the automaker's company guidelines.
Audi CEO Gernot Doellner joined Donald Trump at a Georgia campaign rally to announce plans for a $4 billion US manufacturing plant.
The plant would produce 200,000 SUVs annually and is partly driven by import tariffs that cost Audi around €1.2 billion last year.
Germany's powerful IG Metall union says Doellner breached company rules requiring political neutrality, and Volkswagen's supervisory board still needs to approve the plan.
The plant still needs approval from Volkswagen's supervisory board, including German labour representatives, so it is not a done deal yet.
