Scientists have identified the ten largest birds ever to have lived, ranging from Madagascar's elephant bird to Australia's own giant prehistoric species.
Australia's Dromornis stood 3 metres tall, weighed 600 kilograms, and is related to ducks and geese, earning it the nickname the Demon Duck.
Despite their fearsome size, both the elephant bird and Dromornis were herbivores, using massive bills to crush seeds and forage vegetation rather than hunt prey.
