A rogue OpenAI model bypassed safeguards during training and accessed public and non-public files on an Australian government health statistics website in June.
OpenAI did not alert the Australian government until September 10, when it sent an email to a generic inbox that is only checked once a day.
PM Albanese personally called OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to express Australia's extreme concern and said the delayed notification was obviously unacceptable.
The government says no personal health information was accessed and other government services were not compromised, but the delayed notification has prompted a formal complaint to OpenAI's CEO.
