Anthony Albanese signed a joint statement with leaders from more than 20 countries calling for human oversight and control of artificial intelligence.
The statement warns that AI systems could circumvent safeguards and gain unauthorised access, and calls for a possible UN international standards body.
Separately, a Senate committee recommended triple zero be taken out of Telstra's hands and placed under an independent national authority.
The declaration calls on AI companies to publish transparent safety protocols and urges the UN to explore an international body to set global AI standards.
