Victoria extended its H5 bird flu biosecurity requirement for another 28 days from September 19, as the virus continues spreading among wild coastal birds.
Anyone controlling 50 or more poultry in southern local government areas, including metropolitan Melbourne, must confine birds away from wild birds and their droppings.
The ACCC has confirmed free-range labelling rules will not be enforced for up to 90 days while a confinement requirement is in place, so egg labelling is unaffected.
If you own 50 or more poultry in southern Victorian or metropolitan Melbourne councils, you must keep birds confined to prevent contact with wild birds until at least mid-October.
