Two-year-old Ethiopian twins joined at the head have been successfully separated after a 25-hour surgery in the US, and are now seeing each other face to face for the first time.
The twins were born in Ethiopia with a rare condition that left them joined at the head. Doctors spent a year planning a separation surgery.
Conjoined twins Hiyab and Wuhbto, born in Ethiopia joined at the head, were successfully separated in a 25-hour operation at a St. Louis children's hospital in February.
The surgery was led by Dr Joanna Kemp, the first female neurosurgeon in the US to perform this procedure, with a team of nearly 30 specialists who planned it for almost a year.
The girls are now in rehabilitation, Wuhbto has had a successful skull repair, and the hospital hopes to send them home to Ethiopia later this year.
