Serbia’s Vucic concedes election defeat to student-led movement
Serbia's long-ruling leader Aleksandar Vucic has conceded defeat to a student-led opposition movement in a snap parliamentary election, ending 13 years of his party's rule.
Vucic says the opposition Student List is projected to win a parliamentary majority after nearly two years of protests.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic conceded defeat in a snap parliamentary election, with the student-led Student List projected to win a majority of seats.
The Student List is expected to win 135 to 140 seats in the 250-member parliament, against 105 for Vucic's list, with voter turnout the highest since Yugoslavia's breakup in 1992.
The result ends the Serbian Progressive Party's grip on power since 2012, though election monitors recorded irregularities at nearly a third of the polling stations they observed.
