Australian police and intelligence join the list of those probing the incident.
Victoria's Joint Counter Terrorism Team is investigating the Australian connections of the Flydubai co-pilot accused of attacking the captain with an axe mid-flight.
The co-pilot, identified as Omani national Hamam al-Hammami, reportedly studied at RMIT University in Melbourne about a decade ago and had been barred from flying in Oman over extremist concerns.
Passengers and crew subdued the co-pilot and a reserve pilot completed an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia, with the UAE prosecutor labelling it an attempted terrorist act.
