Swiss football captain Granit Xhaka has been withdrawn from Switzerland's squad after admitting he obtained a fake Covid vaccination certificate in 2022 when he was at Arsenal.
Xhaka said he felt deep distrust of the vaccine and fear, and obtained the certificate instead of seeking proper advice, calling it a mistake he takes full responsibility for.
He is set to be questioned by prosecutors in Lucerne next week, and if charged could face a heavy fine or theoretically up to five years in prison, though a custodial sentence is considered extremely unlikely.
