Eritrean military vehicles crossed into Ethiopia's Tigray region and were subsequently targeted by Ethiopian government drone strikes.
Eritrean troops reached the town of Adigrat, 40 kilometres inside Tigray, according to witnesses, a militia commander and conflict monitor Acled.
The incursion risks reigniting full-scale conflict between Ethiopia and Eritrea, two countries that fought a brutal civil war as recently as 2022.
