Police evacuated homes and arrested several men on suspicion of explosives offences near RAF Fairford in southwestern England.
The army's explosive ordnance disposal team examined a number of vehicles, and about 30 emergency vehicles were deployed to the area.
Authorities have not linked the arrests to Iran, though the base was used for US strikes on Iran and Iran had previously warned such bases could be targets.
Gloucestershire police say they believe the incident is contained, so locals near the area can monitor official updates for when evacuees can return home.
