Tigst Assefa claimed her third Berlin Marathon title on Sunday, running a personal best of 2:11:04 at the 52nd edition of the race.
Assefa was on world record pace through 30K but began visibly limping in the final two kilometres, finishing 68 seconds outside Ruth Chepngetich's record of 2:09:53.
Compatriot Guye Adola completed an Ethiopian double by winning the men's race in a personal best of 2:02:50, his second Berlin title.
