Melbourne Theatre Company has revealed its 2027 season, including a new play imagining a secret 1985 meeting between Bob Hawke, Kerry Packer and cricket legend Clive Lloyd.

A reimagining of a famed meeting between Bob Hawke, Kerry Packer, and cricket legend Clive Lloyd, a solo performance of Richard III by Kate Mulvany, and a new production of War of the Worlds are among the major offerings in Melbourne Theatre Company’s newly unveiled program for 2027.

Melbourne Theatre Company has unveiled its 2027 season, featuring 11 works including six world premieres and seven by Australian writers.

The detail

The headline show, Rebels, imagines a real but little-documented 1985 meeting where Hawke reportedly offered West Indies captain Clive Lloyd a role rebuilding Australian cricket.

And then

Kate Mulvany, currently starring in Netflix's My Brilliant Career adaptation, will also perform a solo version of Richard III in the same season.
