The latest prototype of Australia's $42 million 2030 Moon rover has been revealed
Australia's lunar rover prototype, nicknamed Roo-ver, has been unveiled in Brisbane as part of a $42 million mission to send an Australian-built rover to the Moon's South Pole in 2030.
The land drone is part of an Australian-led NASA mission to the lunar South Pole in 2030 and has been designed and built in Queensland.
The latest prototype of Australia's Roo-ver lunar rover was revealed at Queensland University of Technology during World Space Week, ahead of a planned 2030 Moon mission.
The Brisbane-based ELO2 consortium behind the rover includes BHP, several universities and deep tech startups, and is backed by around $42 million through the Australian Space Agency.
Once on the Moon, Roo-ver will be operated from Australia and carry a NASA instrument to analyse lunar soil, supporting efforts to establish a sustainable human presence on the Moon.
The rover will be controlled from Australia using remote operations expertise from the mining sector, and will carry a NASA instrument to analyse lunar soil as part of the Artemis program.
