Some Google Pixel users say update is locking their phones
A Google Pixel software update is locking some users out of their phones, with some forced to factory reset their devices to regain access.
Some frustrated users say that the latest Pixel update is locking them out of their Google smartphones.
Some Google Pixel owners found themselves locked out of their phones after installing the September 2026 software update.
Affected models include the Pixel 8 Pro, 9a and 10 Pro XL, with users reporting their PIN or pattern unlock stops working immediately after the update.
Google is aware of the issue but has not released a fix yet, and because Pixel phones are encrypted, the company cannot unlock them remotely.
If you have a Google Pixel, hold off on the September 2026 update until Google releases a fix, as installing it may lock you out of your phone entirely.
