Aleksandar Vucic has held power in Serbia since 2014, and his defeat heralds a new political era for the Balkan country.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic conceded defeat to the Student List protest movement in a snap election on Sunday, ending his dominance of Serbian politics since 2014.
The student movement was sparked by the deaths of 16 people when a train station canopy collapsed in Novi Sad in 2024, triggering nearly two years of demonstrations.
European leaders including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen congratulated the students and said the EU stands ready to advance Serbia's membership prospects.
