Ferritin face: Can you really diagnose low iron from your looks?
Doctors warn that the viral 'ferritin face' trend on TikTok cannot actually diagnose low iron, even though some symptoms can be real clues.
Videos in which people claim to spot the signs of low iron have attracted millions of views online.
A viral TikTok trend called ferritin face claims you can spot low iron levels just by looking at someone's skin, hair and nails.
GP Dr Aziza Sesay told the BBC that ferritin face is not a medical diagnosis, and those visual signs can point to many other conditions.
If you relate to the symptoms, doctors say a blood test is the only reliable way to check your iron levels, not a TikTok video.
If you notice pale skin, hair shedding or brittle nails, doctors say get a blood test rather than self-diagnosing from social media videos.
