Sale makes ‘Jodi’, a smaller relative of T rex, the ‘second most valuable dinosaur ever sold at auction’, Sotheby’s says
A rare Nanotyrannus skeleton sold at Sotheby's in New York for $47.3 million after a twelve-minute bidding battle involving six bidders.
Named Jodi after the woman who found it in 2019 on her Montana land, the skeleton is nearly 20 feet long and is one of only three substantial Nanotyrannus skeletons known to science.
Sotheby's had estimated it would fetch between $6 million and $9 million, so the final price was a stunning surprise even for the auction house.
