Popular Longevity Supplement Fails to Meet Endpoint in Parkinson's Trial
A major clinical trial found the popular longevity supplement nicotinamide riboside, often sold as an NAD+ booster, did not help Parkinson's patients and modestly worsened some symptoms.
NAD+ treatment modestly worsened symptom burden and disease progression
The largest trial of its kind found nicotinamide riboside, a widely sold longevity supplement, failed to slow early Parkinson's disease progression.
After 52 weeks, Parkinson's symptom scores worsened slightly more in the supplement group than in the placebo group, according to results published in JAMA.
Lead researcher Tzoulis said the supplement clearly boosted NAD metabolism but this did not translate into any clinical improvement for patients.
If you or someone you know takes NAD+ supplements hoping to slow Parkinson's, the NOPARK trial found no benefit and slightly worse outcomes, so it is worth discussing with a neurologist.
