LifestyleThe Guardian‘People forgot I existed’: Audrey Niffenegger on taking 14 years to write a sequel to The Time Traveler’s Wife
Audrey Niffenegger has finally written a sequel to The Time Traveler's Wife, 14 years in the making, and says American politics made her dystopian vision feel all too real.
Her debut made her a global star. Now she has finally written a follow-up – and this time, it’s political. She talks about impostor syndrome, screen adaptations and becoming radicalised
Author Audrey Niffenegger has released Life Out of Order, a sequel to her 2003 bestseller The Time Traveler's Wife, more than two decades after the original.
The new book follows Clare and Henry's daughter Alba, who shares her father's time-travelling condition but uses it for personal and political ends in a darkening America.
Niffenegger says she began writing in 2012 during a hopeful political moment, but over 14 years her dystopian imaginings grew to look worryingly close to reality.
