Sophie Adenot splashed down in the Pacific Ocean off California and arrived in Cologne, Germany on Saturday, visibly emotional and physically weakened.
Her 235-day mission broke the record for the longest uninterrupted orbital stay by a European astronaut, and she completed three spacewalks.
Adenot now faces about three weeks of intensive recovery to reverse bone loss, muscle wasting and other physical effects of long-duration spaceflight.
