Nanotyrannus skeleton goes to auction in New York with £4.5m price tag
A newly confirmed dinosaur species called Nanotyrannus, nicknamed Jodi, is going under the hammer at Sotheby's in New York with a price tag of up to $9 million.
Nicknamed "Jodi", the roughly 10-foot-tall (3m) skeleton will be auctioned by Sotheby's in New York, after researchers confirmed it belongs to a distinct genus.
A Nanotyrannus skeleton nicknamed Jodi, long mistaken for a juvenile T. rex, is being auctioned by Sotheby's in New York with a starting price of $6 million.
Jodi is one of only three known Nanotyrannus skeletons and was discovered by Montana rancher Jodi Pierson on her land in the Hell Creek Formation.
The sale follows Sotheby's record-breaking $50.1 million sale of a T. rex called Gus in July, amid ongoing debate about privately selling scientific specimens.
