Victoria Police served underworld figure Mick Gatto with a personal safety intervention order on Tuesday over an alleged harassment campaign against journalist Nick McKenzie.
The order comes as a Royal Commission into the integrity of major construction projects is set to begin on Wednesday, with Gatto expected to be a significant focus.
McKenzie's reporting on CFMEU corruption and organised crime in the construction industry has previously led to threatening calls, criminal charges against others, and an unsolved break-in at his home.
