Leftist incumbent Lula stages unprecedented comeback weeks after narrowly losing first round of election to Bolsonaro
Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won a historic fourth term as Brazil's president, defeating Flávio Bolsonaro in the second round of voting with 51.75 per cent.
Lula had narrowly lost the first round to Bolsonaro weeks earlier, making him the first second-round runner-up to win the presidency since democracy returned in the 1980s.
The result is a blow to Flávio's father Jair Bolsonaro, who is serving a 27-year prison sentence for plotting a coup and had hoped his son's win might help his cause.
