WorldAl JazeeraFive key takeaways from Israel’s parliamentary elections
Israel's election results show a near-dead heat between Netanyahu's bloc and the opposition, with neither side close to a governing majority.
With more than half of votes counted, Netanyahu’s bloc holds slight lead over opposition, but shy of majority.
Israeli parliamentary elections produced a very tight race, with Netanyahu's bloc narrowly ahead but well short of the 61 seats needed to govern.
With 55 percent of votes counted, Netanyahu's bloc held 56 Knesset seats against rival Gadi Eisenkot's alliance on 49, per the Central Elections Committee.
Neither bloc can form a majority alone, meaning complex coalition negotiations lie ahead before Israel has a new government.
