Elon Musk has become the largest known donor in the upcoming US midterm elections despite earlier saying he wanted to stay out of politics.
Musk has sunk about $US442 million into Republican groups, with at least $US158 million going to a Texas Senate race where Republican Ken Paxton faces Democrat James Talarico.
