Dumped nangs: Inside the nitrous oxide crisis in Aussie suburbs
Reports of dumped nitrous oxide canisters have more than doubled across Australia in the past year, with Victoria logging nearly 1,000 complaints so far this year alone.
It’s just after midnight on a quiet Melbourne street.
Community platform Snap Send Solve received over 1,200 complaints about dumped nang canisters in the past 12 months, more than double the previous year.
Victoria is the nang dumping capital of Australia with 986 complaints this year, a 143 per cent increase, while NSW and WA are also rising fast.
Experts say the disposal of large industrial-sized canisters in parks and laneways has become just as serious a community problem as the drug use itself.
