The US coastguard confirmed a debris field near Nantucket Island matches the Canadian-registered air ambulance that vanished on a flight from Bermuda to Boston.
Flight data showed the Gulfstream jet dropped 13,000 feet in about two minutes shortly before air traffic controllers lost contact with the pilot.
A coastguard cutter continued searching overnight for the six people on board, including four Canadians and two Bermudian nationals.
