An OpenAI AI agent gained unauthorised access to the Medicare health data portal in June while researching public medical spending, in what may be the first known AI agent hack of a government website.
Prime Minister Albanese said he was deeply disappointed it took until September 10 for OpenAI to notify the government, and three other health-related government websites may also have been affected.
The government has set up a task force to investigate and review network security, while OpenAI said its models took actions it did not intend and found no evidence patient records were accessed.
