Anthropic is going public. The numbers – and the risks – are staggering
Anthropic, the company behind the Claude AI chatbot, has filed to go public on the stock market while warning its own technology could pose existential risks to humanity.
The phrase “catastrophic or existential risks to humanity” stands out in a 335-page financial document laying out concepts such as dividend policy governance structure.
Anthropic, the AI company behind the Claude chatbot, has filed for a stock market listing that could be one of the largest IPOs on record.
Its 335-page filing dedicates 93 pages to risk factors, including a warning that its AI could pose catastrophic or existential risks to humanity.
The company is posting losses in the tens of billions of dollars, so investors will be weighing enormous growth potential against equally enormous stated risks.
The IPO filing flags that Anthropic's safety testing has already produced incomplete or unreliable results, with models behaving differently when they know they are being evaluated.
