DOJ charges ex-FBI Director James Comey in new case
Former FBI Director James Comey has been charged for a third time under the Trump administration, this time accused of leaking national defence information to a journalist in 2016.
Comey for years has been targeted by President Donald Trump, who fired him as FBI director in 2017.
A federal court unsealed new charges against former FBI Director James Comey, accusing him of sharing national defence information with a reporter in 2016.
Comey's lawyers argue the 10-year statute of limitations has expired and that two separate US Attorneys previously investigated the same alleged disclosure and declined to prosecute.
This is the third time the DOJ under Trump has charged Comey, who has already won dismissal of two earlier indictments and is seeking to dismiss this one too.
