A New Injection Makes Fat Cells Self-Destruct, And Might Prevent GLP-1 Weight Regain
Early trials of a new injectable drug called CBL-514 show it can kill fat cells rather than just shrink them, with promising results for visceral fat reduction.
Early clinical trials into a new fat reduction treatment have reported promising results, and the treatment takes a more unusual approach: Rather than shrinking fat cells, as most weight loss strategies do, it safely and naturally kills them off.
Early clinical trials of an injectable drug called CBL-514 have shown it can destroy fat cells rather than simply shrink them, researchers reported.
Participants given CBL-514 for up to 12 weeks showed an average 12 percent reduction in visceral fat, while those on a placebo saw a 5.68 percent increase.
The results have not yet been peer-reviewed, and experts say larger, longer trials are needed before conclusions about lasting health benefits can be drawn.
Researchers say larger trials with longer follow-up are still needed before this treatment could be widely available, so it is not something to ask your GP about just yet.
