A 75-year-old British woman who has had four cancers over 40 years says a daily trial tablet has shrunk her lung tumour with minimal side effects.
Susan Gasson has had four cancers since the 1980s and now takes a daily tablet as part of a trial.
Susan Gasson, who has survived breast, cervical, thyroid and lung cancer since the 1980s, joined a clinical trial at the Royal Marsden after her lung cancer returned.
The trial targets a HER2 gene mutation that drives cells to grow excessively, and Susan takes a single tablet daily with CT scans every six weeks to monitor progress.
Her tumour has shrunk and she has needed no further chemotherapy, with the hospital saying there was previously no targeted option for patients with this mutation.
The Royal Marsden says there was previously no targeted therapy for lung cancer patients with a HER2 gene mutation, so this trial could matter if that mutation runs in your family.
