SpaceX is attempting to put its massive Starship rocket into Earth's orbit for the first time, aiming to deploy 26 Starlink satellites during the roughly 10-hour test flight.
SpaceX launched its 14th Starship test flight from Texas, aiming for the first time to reach Earth's orbit rather than a suborbital trajectory.
The rocket needs to hit around 28,000 kilometres per hour to reach a circular orbit about 275 kilometres above Earth, then deploy 26 next-generation Starlink satellites.
Success would open a new phase of development including in-orbit refuelling tests, bringing Musk's ambitions for Moon and Mars missions a step closer.
