Socceroos star Cristian Volpato has been fined $722 after a second drug test confirmed cocaine in his system, despite him and his lawyer strongly denying he ever took the drug.
This masthead can reveal that a secondary sample of Volpato’s oral fluid taken for analysis after the roadside test last week returned a positive result to cocaine. Volpato was issued a traffic infringement notice and fined $722, NSW Police said in a statement.
A second oral fluid sample taken from Socceroos player Cristian Volpato has returned a positive result for cocaine, NSW Police confirmed.
Volpato was fined $722 and had already lost his international licence for six months after being caught driving nearly 50km/h over the limit on Anzac Bridge.
His lawyer says Volpato is considering an appeal, and a hamstring injury means Football Australia faces no immediate decision on his national team selection.
