‘Sad case’ laid bare as LIV collapse leaves four Aussies scrambling
LIV Golf's collapse has left Aussie golfers Cameron Smith, Marc Leishman, Lucas Herbert and Elvis Smylie without a tour to play on.
The collapse of LIV Golf has left four Aussie players without a home. Ripper GC captain Cameron Smith, as well as his team members Marc Leishman, Lucas Herbert, and Elvis Smylie are in sporting limbo.
LIV Golf folded on Friday, leaving four Australian players including Cameron Smith and Marc Leishman in sporting limbo with no tour home.
Smith, once ranked No.2 in the world, is now ranked 162nd after his move to LIV, and reportedly knocked back a chance to rejoin the PGA Tour earlier this year.
Options for the players range from qualifying school to early retirement, with Smith's reported $140m sign-on bonus meaning he could simply walk away.
Smith reportedly earned a $140m sign-on bonus alone, so retirement is a real option, but younger players like Herbert may need to chase a PGA or DP World tour card.
