Pope Leo XIV spoke out against medically assisted dying at Lourdes, saying what is legal is not necessarily moral, to applause from the crowd.
France recently passed end-of-life legislation allowing adults with incurable illnesses to receive lethal medication, which prompted Leo's remarks.
Leo also met privately with seven survivors of clergy sexual abuse, continuing a practice now standard for popes on foreign visits.
